  • Assistant to the SSP Director, International Space University

    The individual in this position will report to the Director of the Space Studies Program at the International Space University. Position is full-time with activities spanning the full range of academic and logistics support functions. Applicant should be aware that the summer schedule is quite intense and that they are expected to be on-site for the full duration of the nine-week SSP session, including a minimum of two weeks before the session begins and up to a full week after it is completed. Individual must be willing to travel as s/he will be required to travel to the SSP sites outside of Strasbourg as well as support other trips including the Curriculum Planning Meeting, site visits, as well as other travel as needed.

    Basic Qualifications:
    Successful applicant must be fluent in English. French or other language skills are a plus. Individual must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be comfortable communicating with senior level academicians and aerospace industry officials and personnel. Cultural awareness at a global level is a must. Applicant must be a self-starter, require minimal supervision when executing their work, and be able to successfully manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

    Software Skills:
    Successful applicant should, at a minimum, possess good to excellent working knowledge of the following software tools: In Design, File Maker Pro (or similar data base tools), the Microsoft Office Suite of programs, as well as Joomla or similar web page editing and design tools.

    Primary Tasks:
    As determined by the SSP Director, the workload will be approximately evenly divided between providing support to the SSP Academic Coordinator and the SSP Logistics Coordinator. Academic support tasks will include, but not be limited to assisting with: the screening and selecting the temporary SSP staff and teaching associates; developing and managing the academic schedule; preparing and editing the SSP Academic Handbook and other academic materials such as the Core Lecture Study Notes; communicating with invited lecturers and faculty; and preparing for the Curriculum Planning Meeting.     Science, the world's largest-circulation journal of general scientific research, news, and commentary, has an opening for an intern to assist the Web editorial team for the www.sciencemag.org site.
